Unit 4 where is my backpack (section A 1a ~1c)

Teaching aims: Guide students to talk about “Things around the house” and learn to inquiry the location of objects. Make Ss learn basic sentence patterns “Where’s my backpack? It’s under/on/near /in the box.”
Teaching focus:
1.How to talk about where things are and use the preposition of place preposition “in, on, under, near”.
2.Some nouns about furniture: table, dresser, bookcase, sofa, chair, drawer, daily use things as plant, CD, alarm clock, video tape, hat
Teaching procedures:
Greetings
T: Good morning, everyone!
S: Good morning, Lola!

Step 1 Warming up
Learn the new words “in, on, under, near “by helping the teacher find out the things she lost. 
     1. T: Where is my English book?
       S: It’s here.
       T: Oh, it’s on the desk.
     2. T: Where are my keys?
       S: They’re under your book.
     3. T: Where is my dictionary?
       S: It’s in the backpack.
Then play a game “Look for things”.
The students hide and look for the things in groups. They can give the others some clues.
For example:
This is my book..  It’s on the second desk.
This is his pen.    It’s in the third desk.

Step 2: New words learning
Show the students three pictures of rooms (bedroom, sitting room, study room)

Bedroom 
Sitting room 
Study room 

Group work:

The students choose one of the three pictures and list the things they may think the room has.

 

Ask the groups to share their ideas with the class. Meantime they can teach the new words.
     Where is…….?       It’s……..
Where are … ….?     They are….…

Step 3: Activities
1. Match the words with the pictures. (SectionA 1a)
 (After students finish, ask students one by one to give their answers .)

2. List and number the things in the pictures when you hear them. (SectionA 1b)
(In this part, before listening, guide students to see the pictures and guess the answer. Then listen twice. If students can not follow the tape, teacher can repeat certain sentences slowly. After most students have got the right answers , ask students listen again and repeat what they hear.)

3. Pair work :
 Talk about the pictures in the textbooks and make their own conversation.
 (Give students five minutes and then ask pairs to act out their conversation in the front. Teacher encourages more pairs to do this.)

4. Game: challenge your memory.
  Teacher divide class into two groups and have a completion between the two groups.
   When teacher choose one picture of furniture at random, then show to class with a questions where is …..?”or “where are … ….?”. Students have to answer it as soon as quickly.
For example:
T: where is the hat ?
(one of students in a group should hands up as quickly as he or she can)
S: It’s on the sofa
Step 4: listen and read
Listen to the tape and try to repeat each sentence. Pay attention to the intonation.

Homework: 
1.Make a survey .Interview a student / a teacher and fill in the forms
2.Remember new words of this lesson and practice dialogue with partners
